Section
608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires that all persons who maintain,
service, repair or dispose of appliances must be certified by November
14, 1994.
Failure to comply
can cost you and/or your company as much as $27,500 per day, per violation.
EPA also offers
a reward up to $10,000 to a person providing information concerning violations
of the act. The law requires the test to be a closed book proctored exam.
The NCi certification
for Type I, Type II, Type III or Universal will depend upon passage of
the exam administered by NCi.
Technicians need
to pass the general knowledge (Core) section before any type of certification
may be obtained. A 70% passing grade (18 out of 25 correct answers) is
needed for each section or type. Technicians passing all sections will
be issued a Universal Certification.
If a technician
fails any section of the test, he/she may retake only the failed sections.
The average time
for a technician to complete the test is 15 to 20 minutes per section.
NCi will issue a
Certificate Diploma and a wallet size identification card to technicians
that pass the exam.
Part of the training program from NCi includes
booklets and other preparation materials.
The preparation materials are not intended
to cover every aspect of the certification exam or to be a formal training
refrigeration manual in any way. Preparation materials are intended to
aid an already knowledgeable technician to refresh his/hers memory. NCi
will not assume any liability connected with information or misinformation
provided on preparation materials.
Preparation materials are not required
to take the exam, however they are strongly recommended.
